DevPact supported the design of the Promoting Sustainable Agricultural Market Systems (PROMAS) project in Mozambique

The Promoting of Sustainable Agricultural Market Systems (PROMAS) is a Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) funded project whose goal is to “increase incomes of smallholder farmers, especially women and youth, and to boost MSMEs in northern Mozambique through their engagement in market systems that are sustainable and resilient to shock” in three provinces of Northern Mozambique (Nampula, Niassa, and Cabo Delgado). Applying a market systems development (MSD) approach, PROMAS will improve service delivery to promote selected smallholder farmers’ inclusion in value chains with an emphasis on climate change, agro-ecology, gender equity, and youth empowerment. DevPact has been retained to support value chain selection and value chain analysis activities as part of the inception phase to deliver an implementable project document for the subsequent phases of the project. As part of this work, DevPact consultants led a horticulture value chain analysis in Balama, Maputo, Montepuez, Nampula, Ribaue and Malema and participated in a value chain selection exercise that brought together key actors in the Mozambican agricultural sector.
